The Cook County medical examiner’s office released the identity of a fatal shooting victim early Sunday May 3, 2020 near Gateway Park in Rolling Meadows as Marco Guerrero-Lopez, age 39, of Palatine.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office also determined the death of Marco Guerrero-Lopez was a homicide, and his death was caused by a gunshot wound to the torso.
Rolling Meadows police officers discovered the man suffering from the gunshot wound just before 5:07 a.m. Sunday after a responding to a report of a shots fired in the block of 2000 Kirchoff Road, just west of Gateway Park near the border with Arlington Heights.
Guerrero-Lopez was immediately transported to the nearest hospital, which was Northwest Community Hospital since he was in traumatic cardiac arrest due to the gunshot wound. Paramedics performed CPR with Advanced Life Support to the hospital less than a mile away.
Marco Guerrero-Lopez was pronounced dead at 5:35 a.m. Sunday.
Police handcuffed a male adult from the first house west of Gateway Park on Kirchoff Road led by a K-9 search by an Arlington Heights police K-9 team with other police officers. Police have not confirmed whether the male that was transported from the scene about 6:30 a.m. was the ‘person of interest’ who they said that they are questioning.
The same house was also included in part of a shooting investigation on Friday April 24, 2020 about 9:45 p.m. when police closed New Wilke Road near Kirchoff Road, set up a crime scene perimeter at a nearby Shell gas station, and discovered a shooting victim near Route 53 and Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows. Arlington Heights Police Department and Rolling Meadows Police Department were involved in the police activity, but neither police department provided any official release regarding the shooting on Friday, April 24, 2020.
