Police and firefighter/paramedics from Wheeling and Prospect Heights responded about 6:51 p.m. Thursday April 02, 2020 to a report of an aircraft crash landing into water next to a runway at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling and Prospect Heights.
Wheeling Fire Battalion Chief on arrival reported an aircraft upright in water with one pilot apparently OK. The pilot was able to get out of the aircraft on his own.
Extra crash trucks were returned, and the pilot refused medical transport with initially no injuries reported.
Fries Automotive/Towing from Wheeling recovered the aircraft and towed it off the airfield.
Apparently the pilot was landing the aircraft on Runway 16 when the aircraft ended up a few feet off the west side of Runway 16/34 in a ditch in grass and water, and approximately 1700 feet from the north end of the runway.
The information in this article is an early report published before any summary information was confirmed or released by police or fire authorities.
