President Trump said that anybody who wants a COVID-19 test can get one. NBC News’ Alexa Liautaud explains the step-by-step process to getting tested for the virus, and why some people are hitting roadblocks.
Typical Timeline of a Coronavirus infection …
Initially, there are possibly no symptoms (but the person might be contagious)
4 days – Cough starts about 4 days after infection. The cough is described as a productive cough with clear liquid or sputum.
7 days – If the case is getting severe, shortness of breath might develop, especially true if the second victim is in the over-50 crowd with pre-existing heart or lung disease.
If the person that infected a second person experienced only mild symptoms, that does not mean that the second person will also have only mild symptoms. Again, this is especially true if the second victim is in the over-50 crowd with pre-existing heart or lung disease.
Most likely if a person is free of symptoms for 14 days they are considered cured. However, people are not considered cured until they have two negative tests that are taken 24 hours apart.
Coronavirus or covid-19 symptoms range from mild to severe. They’re most likely to be similar to a regular cold, the flu or seasonal allergies; like a fever, headache, fatigue, sore throat and runny nose. Coughing and shortness of breath are common, according to the CDC. If you have severe symptoms, it’s definitely time to get in touch with a health care provider (Washington Post).
