Woodstock Fire/Rescue District firefighter/paramedics responded at 7:22 p.m. Saturday January 26, 2020 to a report of a fire in the basement of a 1½-story home in the 100 block of North Street. Two residents were home at the time and called 911 to report the fire. Firefighters on arrival confirmed there was a basement fire.
A MABAS Division 5 Box Alarm (5-30) was activated by 7:50 p.m. Woodstock firefighters were assisted by crews and/or chiefs from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Cary, Crystal Lake, Harvard, Hebron-Alden-Greenwood, Huntley, Marengo, McHenry, Nunda, Spring Grove, Union, and Wonder Lake either at the scene or on standby at fire stations.
Eventually there was a floor collapse, and all firefighters were ordered out of the building and were operating in defensive mode by about 7:51 p.m.
No residents or firefighters were injured in the fire, but one dog was missing, and an unconscious dog was rescued from the home and revived by firefighters. The dog was given back to the homeowners.
Firefighters worked for several hours to extinguish hots spots and any rekindling of flames in the burnt structure.
A fire investigation is underway, but officials said the fire did not appear to be suspicious.
A damage estimate was not initially available. Officials said the home sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage.
