A 32-year-old man told Chicago police a coyote bit him Wednesday night in Lincoln Park (Mugo Odigwe/CBS Chicago).
A 32-year-old man reported he was bitten by a coyote on his buttocks late Wednesday night, January 8, 2020 in the block of 700 North Fairbanks Court in the Gold Coast. The man walked into the Northwestern Memorial Hospital emergency room about midnight Wednesday/Thursday. He was treated and released.
About 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2020, a 5-year-old boy was attacked and bitten on the side of his head outside the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Lincoln Park. The boy was transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where is condition was described as is ‘stable.’
Students at Lincoln Park High School were in lockdown status to avoid contact with any coyotes, after reports of a coyote sighting at Oz Park nearby.
Multiple news crews have captured video showing a limping coyote that has also been described as aggressive. The coyote is shown protecting his right front paw while limping.
Experts claim it’s unusual for a coyote to approach or attack humans. However, an injured or sick coyote may exhibit abnormal behavior, having more difficulty catching prey, such as small mammals.
Animal Care and Control urges Chicagoans with coyote encounters call in a sighting or encounter by dialing 311.
CBS 2’s Vince Gerasole reports, despite recent and multiple coyote sightings in Chicago, according to one expert, it’s not unusual to find the animals in Chicago’s urban landscape.
