Lake County Sheriff’s detectives obtained arrest warrant for male suspect — one of three wanted for investigation in connection with an armed robbery in unincorporated Waukegan in a northwest neighborhood.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded about 3:50PM on Thursday December 13, 2019 to a residence in the block of 36600 North Adelphi Avenue, Waukegan, for an armed robbery. The victim, a 41-year-old man, was working on a vehicle in a detached garage on the property. He was approached by three male subjects who entered the garage and confronted him. One of the subjects was armed with a metal pipe.
The three ordered the victim to give them his cash, cell phone, and the jewelry he was wearing. The victim handed the men everything they demanded. Then, one of the men, later identified as Eric Giles, 22, of the 1400 block of Leith Avenue, Waukegan, shoved the victim to the ground. One of the other offenders then struck the victim several times with the metal pipe. The three fled.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening.
Lake County Sheriff’s detectives positively identified Giles as being involved in the incident and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved an arrest warrant for the charges armed robbery (class x felony) and aggravated robbery (class 1 felony) for Giles. On December 16, 2019, a Lake County Judge set bond on the warrant at $500,000.
Giles, after learning he had a warrant for his arrest, surrendered himself to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday morning December 18, 2019.G Eric Giles is scheduled to appear for an initial court hearing today, Wednesday December 19, 2019.
