Black Friday shoppers at Woodfield Mall got a sweet surprise with the earlier-than-expected opening of Molly’s Cupcakes. While the delicious maker of cupcakes is expanding from its flagship location on North Clark Street in Chicago, the Woodfield Mall opening marks the sixth Molly’s Cupcakes in the Chicago market. However, Molly’s Cupcakes in Woodfield is special because it’s the second suburban location in Chicagoland. The other suburban Chicagoland location is the Molly’s Cupcakes in Naperville.
Molly’s Cupcakes is famous as a winner of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars in August, 2010. There are now 4 (Chicago) + 1 (Naperville) + 1 (Woodfield) = 6 (Chicagoland). There are also locations in New York, Iowa City and Cincinatti.
Named “One of the 10 Best Cupcake Bakeries in the Country” by USA Today, Molly’s namesake was founder and ‘Chief Egg Cracker’ Johnny Nicolaides’ third-grade teacher who baked “the best cupcakes ever” for every student’s birthday. In honor of Molly, a portion of each location’s profits are donated to schools in the local community.
Molly’s is located in Woodfield Mall’s lower level Lord & Taylor/Nordstrom wing, near Bath & Body Works.
The Molly’s Cupcakes’ bakery produces center-filled cupcakes, classic cupcakes, cheesecakes and pies and more. Different stores have slightly different menus. The website also has an online service.
The new Molly’s Cupcakes Woodfield opening is part of a busy fourth quarter 2019 that has already welcomed men’s activewear trailblazer TravisMathew, international jewelry boutique Lovisa, The Children’s Place and beauty titan L’Occitane, among others. Burger King will open in Woodfield Mall’s Dining Pavilion by mid-December.
