Bensenville fire scene immediately after fire was extinguished (CBS Chicago/Captured News).
Bensenville Fire Protection District firefighter/paramedics and DuPage County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 8:23 a.m. Tuesday November 12, 2019 to a report of a house fire in the block of 4N500 Church Road near White Pines Golf Club.
Dispatchers received the first 911 call at 8:23 a.m. Firefighters arrived by 8:30 a.m., and began firefighting operations to extinguish the fire.
A woman was waiting outside when firefighters arrived, but the woman’s 80 year-old husband, who has been bedridden for 20 years, was still in the house. The woman reported the blaze was in the basement of the tri-level house.
Firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes and contained the fire to the one room that was on fire, but the 80 year-old man was found dead in the room. Firefighters believe the man had died prior to their arrival.
Although the fire was contained to one room, smoke damage caused the home to be uninhabitable. The fire is under investigation and does not initially appear to be suspicious. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating the blaze, as is standard operating procedure for any fatal fire in DuPage County.
Emergency crews and @DuPageSheriff officials are at the scene of a house fire at the intersection of 3rd Ave. and Church Road, near White Pines Golf Course near #Bensenville. Motorists are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
