Pickup truck crash into brick wall of attached garage at house in Arlington Heights at 4:15 a.m.

Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics respond about 4:15 a.m. Saturday November 2, 2019 responded to the intersection of West Kirchhoff Road and South Yale Avenue in Arlington Heights, Illinois for a traffic crash involving a motor vehicle that left the roadway and struck a private residence. The crash involved a 2012 Chevrolet Colorado.

Based on the at-scene investigation, the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by a 27 year-old male driver from Arlington Heights, Illinois, was originally traveling northbound on New Wilke Road, when the driver made a right turn to head east on Kirchhoff Road. However, in making the right turn, the driver lost control of the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado, jumped the curb, crossed a sidewalk, crashed through a fence and grazed a tree while heading north — almost perpendicular to Kirchhoff Road. The 2012 Chevrolet Colorado was stopped when it hit the south wall of the attached garage at the home at 610 South Yale Avenue at the northwest corner of Yale Avenue and Kirchhoff Road.

At the time of the crash, the driver of the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado was not wearing a seatbelt. He sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries, and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital. There were no other occupants in the vehicle when the crash occurred, nor were any other persons harmed during the incident.

The attached garage at 610 South Yale Avenue sustained some damage, but the home remained habitable after being inspected by Village engineers. Significant amount of brick was smashed to the ground, and at least two cracks were visible in the brick above the location where the vehicle hit the wall.

The homeowners were upstairs sleeping at the time of the crash.

This case remains under investigation by Accident Investigators as a function of impairment on the part of the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado driver. Given the serious nature of collisions involving impairment, the Accident Investigators will take further steps to examine what specific actions lead to the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado departing the roadway and striking the house.

As soon as he is released from Northwest Community Hospital, the driver of the 2012 Chevrolet Colorado will be charged with Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, Failing to Wear a Seatbelt, and Driving off the Roadway (Improper Lane Use), with additional charges possible, pending the results of the technical accident investigation.

NOTE: In a previous article about this incident, the crash location was incorrectly reported at Kirchhoff Road and Reuter Drive in Arlington Heights.
