Crystal Lake police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:18 a.m. Thursday October 31, 2019 to the Living Waters Lutheran Church, 1808 Miller Road to a report of a crash involving a silver 2007 Lexus sedan into the church building.

Upon arrival police discovered the driver of the Lexus left the roadway, crashed through the south exterior brick wall of the church, and had left the scene.

A witness told police officers that the driver walked away, and that the driver was the only person in the car. Police confirmed that no one else was in the car, and Crystal Lake firefighters check for structural damage. The suspected driver, Daniel A. Lang, 41, was located by police walking in the block of 1600 Autumncrest Drive in Crystal Lake, about a one-half mile northeast of the crash scene.

Lang was initially not believed to be injured, and refused treatment. He was arrested suspected of DUI, and charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one charge of failure to give information after striking unattended vehicle/property. The charges are Class A misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail.

Lang was also cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a traffic crash and disobeying a stop sign. Lang posted bond and was released. The was that was breached faces a T-intersection of Miller Road and Frank Road, which is directly in line with the path of the Lexus sedan into the church wall.

The estimated cost of damage to the church building was unknown Thursday morning. The church was not occupied at the time of the crash.
