At 5:30 p.m. the temperature in Waukegan is 69°F and the temperature in Joliet is 83°F with a large temperature gradient in between. A warm front may push toward the north this evening, but it will not likely bring warmer temperatures with sunset on the horizon. The warm front might bring a greater risk of thunderstorms and even a tornado more northward, compared to the storms that occurred near Ottawa and DeKalb earlier Thursday. Heavy rain, hail and lightning is also likely overnight.
The chance for thunderstorms in Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs increases this evening, but the greatest chance for severe storms is between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. in Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center projects a 2% chance tornado zone in parts of McHenry County and northwest Illinois, and indicates a slight chance of severe thunderstorms overnight in most of northern Illinois.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) in northeast Illinois is clear.
