Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:26 AM to the block of 700 S. Evergreen to a report of black smoke coming from an attached garage at a house across the street.
Firefighters arrived on the scene within three minutes and upgraded the call by 10:30 AM to a “working fire response” while seeing smoke showing near an attached garage. The residents were not home at the time of the fire, and firefighters had to force entry into the front door. The fire was extinguished in a few minutes and firefighters quickly worked to ventilate and clear smoke from the house and the garage.
Firefighters led out with two lines — one to extinguish the fire at the garage, and one line as a precaution near the front door of the house. No hose lines were needed inside the house.
The fire was an exterior fire possibly at the rear of the garage, and firefighters contained the fire to the exterior. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
Arlington Heights firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Rolling Meadows Fire Department and Palatine Fire Department.
Arlington Heights police were also on the scene to block traffic on Evergreen Avenue and assist firefighters at the scene.
