Crystal Lake police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:31 AM Tuesday September 3, 2019 to a report of a house fire on Skyline Drive just south of the intersection of Skyline Drive and Hazelwood Drive Crystal Lake, Il. Initial dispatch at 6:31 a.m. and first crew on arrival by about 6:38 a.m reported nothing showing from the exterior.
The initial status update from firefighters on scene at about 6:49 a.m. reported a fire in a second story fireplace, but that it was unknown how the fire started. Severe thunderstorm with active cloud-to-ground lightning in the area was occurring at the time of the fire, and a fire possibly caused by a lightning strike occurred at a house on Longmeadow Drive about 7:17 a.m. and at an apartment building on Algonquin Road in Mount Prospect at about 7:42 a.m.
A gas line possibly supplying a second floor fireplace was possibly ignited; firefighters were working to shut down the gas supply.
A crew on scene reported fire in the attic at 6:55 a.m., and a MABAS Box Alarm was activated at about 7:01 a.m. Box Alarm. The fire was extinguished and the Box Alarm was struck out at about 7:42 a.m.
