Huntley police are investigating a report of bullying, unlawful restraint, and theft alleged to have occurred at Deicke Park, 11419 IL-47 on Monday August 5, 2019 about 1:00 p.m. Two teenagers are alleged to have used duct tape to restrain an 8-year-old boy to a pole. They are also alleged to have stolen the restrained victim’s 6-year-old brother’s candy, according to Huntley Police Department. The 6 year-old was also at the scene.
UPDATE: Huntley police have identified this report from the boys as a hoax. Police interviewed multiple people and reviewed videos of the park area in an attempt to corroborate the boys’ report. After additional questioning, the boys recanted their story. Since the boys are young juveniles, no charges will be filed.
The boys were using the outdoor fitness equipment at the park, off Route 47 near Stingray Bay Family Aquatic Center, 122015 Mill Street, on the west site of Deicke Park. The victims were approached by two teenagers riding bicycles. One of the teenagers grabbed the 8-year-old’s wrist, grabbed the victim’s candy, and then restrained him with duct-tape around his wrist and a pole on fitness equipment, according to Huntley police. The pole or post was part of a chin-up bar structure.
The offenders then rode away on their bikes. The 6-year-old boy, who was not restrained, sought help from a park employee who cut the duct tape to release the 8-year-old male victim.
The park employee then contacted the boys’ mother.
The teens are described as 15 to 17 years-old, wearing black shorts, and black and green T-shirts with “Fortnite” logos. The offenders were last seen riding bikes toward Mill Street.
The boys’ mother reported the incident to Huntley Police Department and father posted it on a Huntley Facebook chat group attempting to track down the teens’ parents.
Huntley police are asking anyone with information about the bullying incident to call 847-515-5311 or leave an anonymous message on the police Tip Line 847-515-5333.
The incident will be discussed at the Huntley High School Summer Forum (August 6-8, 2019), which is an annual three-day program for incoming freshmen jointly sponsored by the Huntley Police Department, the Lake in the Hills Police Department, and the McHenry County sheriff’s office. The goal of HHS Summer Forum is to provide incoming freshman with important information they will need before entering their high school years, all while incorporating fun games, activities, and team building exercises. Topics to be discussed include, but are not limited to, bullying/cyberbullying, teen dating violence, current drug trends & alcohol, dangers of the internet & social networking, and other Huntley High School rules and expectations. The purpose of HHS Summer Forum is to establish positive relationships involving law enforcement with the youth of the Huntley, Lake in the Hills, and Algonquin areas, according to the Village of Huntley.
