A 24-year-old male has died after suffering a medical emergency at Lollapalooza in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday night, August 4, 2019.
The victim was near Perry’s Stage at the music festival when he suffered an undisclosed medical emergency. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, and later pronounced dead. A cause of death was not initially released, and a death investigation is underway.
Information was provided by the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time,” the OEMC said in a statement.
Over the first three days of the four-day festival, a total of 88 people have been hospitalized, which is a decrease from last year when 160 people hospitalized.
At least three suspects were arrested for possession of MDMA (Ecstasy). The OEMC acknowledge arrests for possession of a controlled substance, and that there was an arrest for battery before Lil Wayne’s set. A patron is reported to have hit a security supervisor, who was attempting to obtain proper credentials from the offender. There was also a report that a male punched a female nurse.
Medical calls at Lollapalooza included musculoskeletal injuries related to trying to trespass over barriers, alcohol intoxication, and a seizure.
Lollapalooza is running from Thursday August 1 to Sunday August 4, 2019. Sunday night’s main closing act is Ariana Grande (8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.).
