An innocent Des Plaines woman was rear-ended by an errant driver, who has been cited with Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, died 11 days after a crash in Des Plaines.
Janice Meyer, age 67, was in her vehicle on Thursday April 11, 2019 about 7:39 a.m. when the vehicle was rear-ended at Wolf Road and Forest Avenue in Des Plaines, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Janice Meyer was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Following medical treatment, she was pronounced dead at 11:43 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019, according to the medical examiner’s office. Monday April 22, 2019 was the day after Easter or Easter Monday.
Meyer, who lived in Des Plaines, died from complications of multiple injuries from the crash, according to an autopsy conducted by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Her death was ruled an accident.
The errant driver of the offending vehicle was issued a citation for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, but no criminal charges were filed, and no criminal charges are expected to be filed according to Des Plaines Police Department.
The Speed Limit on Wolf Road near the intersection is 35 MPH, and the Speed Limit on Forest Avenue near the intersection is 25 MPH. There is some skepticism that a rear-end crash of 35 MPH or less would cause a fatality.
