CBS 2 Chicago’s Audrina Bigos reports the family of a little boy missing since last week had been visited by law enforcement multiple times over the years.
Chicago media TV stations and newspapers took a look at a history of police reports that Crystal Lake Police Department released on Tuesday April 23, 2019. Crystal Lake Police visited the house and documented conditions ten times in five years.
Over several visits responding to neighbor’s reports of bad living conditions at the home of missing 5 year-old A.J. Freund’s family, police found …
grass two feet tall;
an electric meter that did not appear to be running, followed by A.J.’s mother, Joan Cunningham, confirming that she and the boys were living without power for some time;
the house “cluttered, dirty and in disrepair;”
dog feces and urine throughout the house;
windows that were falling apart;
cold rooms;
a kitchen with only sub-flooring and jagged edges;
ceiling with water damage, open to piping with peeling paint; and
an overwhelming feces smell through an open window where the boys slept.
When a police officer noted a large bruise on one of the boys hips, Cunningham said “it must have been from the dog.”
Today police revisited the home and seemed to be focused on the grass in the front and the side of the house for an unknown reason, according to CBS 2 Chicago’s Audrina Bigos.
