FOUR IN CUSTODY AFTER LONG POLICE CHASE OF WHITE FORD FOCUS FROM CHICAGO TO NORTHWEST SUBURBS
Four people were taken into custody following a police chase that ended in the northwest suburbs after it started on the southwest side of Chicago.
Chicago police responded about 10:45 p.m. Saturday April 13, 2019 to a suspected shooting near Morgan Street and 32nd Street on Chicago’s southwest side and initiated a pursuit of a white Ford Focus with four occupants.
Police notified area police area police departments and the Illinois State police and Cook County Sheriff’s deputies about a car involved in a drive-by shooting, just before 11 p.m.
State troopers spotted the car in the northbound lanes of I-94 near Garfield Boulevard.
The chase lasted for about an hour on westbound I-290, northbound IL-53, westbound Lake Cook Road, southbound Barrington Road, eastbound I-90, and southbound IL-53/I-290. Speeds were reported up to 90-100 MPH.
The driver and suspects exited southbound Route 53 at Higgins Road and couldn’t make the turn to head westbound on Higgins Road, and instead crashed and stalled on a grassy median with a raised curb just west of West Frontage Road/Martingale Road.
Police with guns drawn had all the suspects in custody by 11:55 p.m.
Chicago Police and Cook Cook County Sheriff’s deputies at police pursuit investigation at Higgins Rd and Martingale Rd, Schaumburg.
One Illinois State Police trooper received a minor injury that was checked by Schaumburg firefighter/paramedics. The suspects were also checked by paramedics.
Initially the charges against the suspects were not announced by police, and an investigation is underway. Police taped off a perimeter that was maintained past 1:30 a.m.
