ALL CLEAR; REVIEW OF SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS THAT SUBJECT MAY HAVE BEEN A STUDENT ATHLETE ENTERING SCHOOL CARRYING A BASEBALL BAT
Police were searching Batavia High School after receiving an unconfirmed report of a male with a rifle entering the school.
Batavia police responded about 6:15 a.m. Monday April 8, 2019 to a report of a male subject entering Batavia High School, 1201 Main Street with a rifle. Police are investigating and searching the high school. Initially, there was not a report of any contact with any subject with a gun.
More than 30 police vehicles are on the scene. Batavia police and nearby communities are on the scene along with Illinois State Police and Kane County Sheriff personnel.
A Facebook post from Batavia Public School District 101 stated …
“Due to police activity at Batavia High School, please wait to come to the high school this morning. No one is allowed in building at this time.
All buses are not operating to Batavia High School at this time. If your child has been picked up by a bus, they will be returned home. More information will be shared as soon as it’s available from the Batavia Police Department.
All other schools will be in session with bus service.”
Police cleared the school about 8:20 a.m. after an extensive search of all areas of Batavia High School.
Deputies responded to assist Batavia Police for an incident at Batavia High School. We are clearing the scene now.
