Law enforcement agencies are encouraging the public to line the streets Friday, April 5, 2019 during a funeral procession to honor Illinois State Trooper Gerald Ellis, who was killed by a wrong-way driver Saturday morning March 30, 2019 about 3:24 a.m.
Ellis, age 36, died when an unlicensed driver, Dan Davies, age 44, of Calumet City, was driving in the wrong direction in the westbound lanes of I-94 and collided with Ellis’ police SUV near Green Oaks and Libertyville. Witnesses said that Ellis deliberately crashed into the errant driver to save the occupants traveling in the same direction behind him. Ellis lived in Antioch, and was on his way home from his shift as a state trooper.
