MINUTES AWAY – JUSSIE SMOLLETT SPEAKS: All criminal charges have been dropped against Jussie Smollett and his record has been wiped clean, his attorneys say…WHAT WE KNOW: https://abc7.ws/2CFX2L9

Smollett’s attorneys Tina Glandian and Patricia Brown Holmes said in a Tuesday morning statement that Smollett’s record “has been wiped clean.” Smollett was indicted on 16 felony counts related to making a false report.
Smollet’s attorneys said in a statement …
“Jussie and many others were hurt by these unfair and unwarranted actions,” the statement continued. “This entire situation is a reminder that there should never be an attempt to prove a case in the court of public opinion. That is wrong. It is a reminder that a victim, in this case Jussie, deserves dignity and respect. Dismissal of charges against the victim in this case was the only just result.
“Jussie is relieved to have this situation behind him and is very much looking forward to getting back to focusing on his family, friends and career.”
In court papers, attorney Mark Geragos, who has represented Smollett, was recently named as the unidentified co-conspirator with attorney Michael Avenatti, who is charged with attempting to shake down Nike for $22 million by threatening the company with bad publicity. Avenatti’s clients include some of R. Kelly’s alleged victims, and also adult actress “Stormy Daniels.”
Mark John Geragos is an American-Armenian criminal defense lawyer, who has worked to defend high-profile clients, including Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder, Gary Condit, Susan McDougal, and convicted wife-murderer Scott Peterson.
Smollett was charged with lying to Chicago police about an alleged January 2019 attack in the city’s Streeterville neighborhood.
Prosecutors allege that Smollett staged the attack because he was unhappy with his salary and wanted to promote his career. A grand jury indicted Smollett on 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct for filing a false report that he was attacked by two men who shouted racial and homophobic slurs, sprayed with bleach, and had a noose put around his neck.
Smollett denied that he staged the attack and maintains he is innocent.
