Person Pinned Under a CTA Train on Elevated Platform Near Lake St and Clinton St, Chicago

Emergency crews respond to the Clinton stop on the Green and Pink lines, after a person was hit by a CTA train on Thursday.

Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:51 PM Thursday February 14, 2019 to a report of a person hit by a CTA train. Multiple requests for crowd control below tracks. Operation is a recovery, 540 West Lake St Chicago, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a person was hit by a CTA train on the elevated tracks near Lake Street and Clinton Street.

Firefighters and paramedics upon arrival discovered the pedestrian was pinned under a wheel of the train. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries on the elevated platform area and was dead at the scene.

Police were working crowd control and traffic control in the area. The CTA incident was located just outside CTA headquarters, and just northwest of the Ogilvie Transportation Center.

A second ambulance was requested to the scene to assess and treat the CTA conductor. Green and Pink Line trains were disrupted. Vehicle traffic on Clinton Street and on Lake Street was heavily congested for at least two blocks in all directions.

Pink Line riders were advised transfer to Blue Line trains at Racine in order to get to Chicago’s loop.

Green Line riders were advised to consider buses as an alternative, including the #20/Madison, #29/State, and #126/Jackson routes, or ride Blue Line or Red Line trains.
