A person called 9-1-1 and reported a murder about 1:51 a.m. December 9, 2018.
A police officer and another male victim described by police as a local resident were intentionally hit by a male offender driving a Chevy sedan at high speed within minutes after the 9-1-1 call reporting a murder.
The Chevy sedan crashed into the doorway at the east side of a 3-story apartment building, dislodging the door frame.
The police officer was able to shoot and kill the driver. Bullet holes were visible in the windshield and glass was shattered on the driver’s side.
Three ambulances, a tower ladder crew, a squad crew, and a battalion chief from Palatine Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. The ambulances were dispatched sequentially as the victim count was discovered.
The police officer and the male victim were immediately transported from the scene by Palatine Fire Department firefighter/paramedics to area hospital(s).
A female victim was found dead by police inside a 3-story apartment building after the driver was shot and killed.
The deceased female victim and the male offender/driver were not immediately transported away from the scene, and remained at the scene as part of the crime scene investigation.
Both the male offender/driver and the female victim were pronounced dead within a short time of assessment by paramedics.
The male/offender’s body was on the ground just north of the passenger side of the vehicle.
The male offender/driver and the female victim knew each other, but the exact relationship has not been released.
Few people were aware of the shooting overnight and no bystanders were out on the Brockway Street in the 1-2 hours after the incident was reported.
Only a few people came forward to news media reporting hearing any gunshots and/or shouting at the scene.
Neighbors interviewed reported the neighborhood is a nice, quiet neighborhood, and didn’t recall any trouble at the apartment building where the crime scene is located.
The Cook County Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT) is conducting the investigation into the officer-involved shooting and is assisting Palatine Police Investigators with the investigation into the death of the woman. The MCAT Violent Crimes Van was on the scene on the west side of the apartment building. Arlington Heights police, the Schaumburg Police Department forensics van, and Cook County Sheriff’s deputies were on the scene along with the MCAT Violent Crimes Van.
The crime scene is located just north of downtown Palatine, and less than two blocks north of the Palatine Metra train station.
Media on scene (but not limited to) included CBS Chicago, NBC Chicago, WGN New, ABC 7 Chicago, Fox Chicago, Daily Herald, and Journal & Topics.
Police on scene did not provide any details about the incident or the investigation (as of noon).
Palatine Police Department promptly provided a statement about the incident at 7:22 a.m. Sunday, December 9, 2018 — within six hours of a crime involving a complex investigation.
