Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 9:34 AM Friday November 16, 2018 to a report of a vehicle vs tree crash at Arlington Heights Road and White Oak Street Arlington Heights, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics also received a report that a Dodge Caravan minivan crashed head-on into a tree. Police on arrival reported the driver was unresponsive. Engine 3’s crew was immediately dispatched for extra personnel for Advanced Life Support. Possible prior medical event; not confirmed.
On November 16th, 2018, at about 9:30 AM, officers from the Arlington Heights Police Department responded to the area of White Oak St. and Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights, Illinois for a traffic crash.
Police report they discovered crash that involved a single motor vehicle versus a parkway tree. The vehicle, a blue 2005 Dodge Caravan, was travelling southbound on Arlington Heights Rd, passing White Oak Street when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle crossed into the oncoming lanes of traffic, hit the east-side curb of Arlington Heights Road, and collided with a large parkway tree.
Damon Ross, age 49, of Palatine Illinois, was identified as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Arlington Heights Fire Department transported the Damon Ross with Advanced Life Support to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where was pronounced dead a short time later.
The initial investigation failed to reveal any independent witnesses to the crash. The victim was wearing his seatbelt in a proper fashion when the crash occurred, according to Arlington Heights Police Department.
No other injuries were reported. There was significant damage to the 2005 Dodge Caravan, but there was no significant damage to any other property.
The case is still under review by Arlington Heights Accident Investigators, as well as the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy is expected to be performed on Saturday, November 17th, 2018. Based on the circumstance of the crash, the preliminary investigation did not determine whether the crash was preceded by a medical event, driver error, or distracted driving. Also, excessive speed did not appear to play a role in crash. The Speed Limit on Arlington Heights in the area of the crash is 35 MPH.
