Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:34 PM Tuesday to a car vs. bicycle crash on eastbound Golf Road between the driveway to International Plaza and Goebbert Road. The crash occurred on Golf Road in front of Valli Produce, 400 East Golf Road. Police arrived first on the scene and reported the bicyclist was unresponsive in the roadway, requested the Accident Investigation team, and ordered the eastbound roadway closed down at about 4:36 p.m. Firefighter/paramedics transported the bicyclist with life-threatening injuries to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
A small-to-mid size car — a gray Nissan Altima — had significant damage to its windshield and roof, which indicated the likelihood of high force impact and the possibility of life-threatening trauma for the victim.
Eastbound Golf Road was closed at Arlington Heights Road. Golf Road was closed for a prolonged period Tuesday night during accident investigation. Traffic on southbound Arlington Heights Road was not permitted to turn left at Golf Road. Some drivers that wanted to go eastbound on Golf Road turned left at Seegers Road and gained access to eastbound Golf Road at Goebbert Road east of the crash scene.
Golf Road was reopened at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Several accidents were reported during the evening rush hour while light rain was falling and air temperature was 39°F at O’Hare International Airport from 2:51 p.m. through 4:51 p.m. The air temperature was 39°F or greater from 5:00 p.m. through 10:00 p.m. Tuesday.
