Aurora police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:56 PM Monday October 22, 2018 to a report of a police-involved shooting during a police response to a report of a robbery at gunpoint in the block of 1300 East Indian Trail Aurora.
Aurora announced Monday October 22, 2018, a police-involved shooting during a police response to a report of a robbery at gunpoint. Police encountered armed suspects, and shot a suspect in the arm. The officer was not injured during the encounter, which occurred less than one block from the Aurora Police Department headquarters.
Aurora police say that the first officer on the scene encountered armed suspects, and that the police officer discharged his firearm, striking one of the suspects in the arm. Police officers rendered aid to the wounded suspect, and he was transported by Aurora firefighter/paramedics to a nearby hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Two other suspects ran from the scene, but were found hiding in nearby yards and were taken into custody without incident, according to Aurora Police Department.
A firearm was recovered at the scene of the shooting, and the incident is under investigation, authorities said.
Aurora Police Department released the statement on Facebook at 8:05 p.m. — about two hours after incident occurred. Aurora Police Department reported there is no current threat to the public and the investigation is ongoing. Aurora police did not initially reveal any circumstances about the robbery. Police radio communications are not available for Aurora Police Department.
Aurora Police Department did not initially describe whether the robbery occurred in a residential or retail/commercial area, but all commercial/retail addresses in the area are on Farnsworth Avenue. There are at least two apartment complexes in the area with Indian Trail addresses.
