Algonquin police responded about 12:06 p.m. Thursday October 18, 2018 to a report of retail theft of liquor and vehicular hijacking of a gray SUV at the Jewel-Osco, 1501 East Algonquin Road.
Two male offenders exited the Jewel-Osco into the parking lot. Upon entering the parking lot, “Suspect No. 1” approached a 58-year-old Algonquin woman, who was standing near her vehicle. “Suspect No. 1” pushed the female victim to the ground, implied that he would was in possession of a weapon and would shoot her, entered her vehicle, and fled the scene with her vehicle eastbound on Algonquin Road (Route 62) toward Barrington Hills and Carpentersville. “Suspect No. 2” fled on foot toward Sandbloom Road.
Police were immediately searching for two male suspects. Investigation of the crime confirmed that the two suspects fled the store after stealing alcohol, and were involved in the vehicular hijacking.
The woman did not suffer any injuries, and her vehicle was recovered in Carpentersville near a Walgreens shortly after the crime was reported. Callers to 9-1-1 in Carpentersville may have seen one or more of the suspects, but the suspects were gone by the time police arrived.
Area schools were notified by police and school official initiated additional security precautions until it was determined that the suspects were no longer in the area when the woman’s vehicle was recovered in Carpentersville.
The suspects were described as male/black offenders between 18 to 25 years old.
“Suspect #1” was reportedly wearing a red and black Chicago Blackhawks hooded sweatshirt and black exercise pants with white stripes.
“Suspect #2” was reportedly wearing a white jacket with a red stripe across the chest and black exercise pants with white stripes.

On Tuesday February 6, 2018 about 8:30 p.m., an Algonquin man hijacked a car from an 83-year-old woman near the Jewel-Osco. The male offender fled with the woman’s Dodge Neon eastbound on Algonquin Road and eventually crashed into a telephone pole on Haeger’s Bend Road near River Road.
