After suffering a stroke in January 2012, Mark Kirk participated in the Willis Tower Stair Climb, which benefits the Rehabilitation institute of Chicago, where Kirk was worked with medical experts on his recovery.
On Sunday, November 4, 2012, the U.S. Senator started on the 66th floor — taking around an hour to ascend to the finish line at the 103rd floor. Mark Kirk held on to the railing while ascending unassisted. His physical therapist, Michael Klonowski, was at his side.
Participants sprint, jog or walk to the top of Willis Tower on the world’s highest indoor, urban stair climb. Participants head up the stairs about once every seven seconds.
