Wheeling police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:10 PM Friday to a commercial shed fire at 165 West Hintz Road. Firefighter/paramedics received a report that a shed was fully involved. While responding, firefighters reported a smoke header visible in the direction of the reported location of the fire.
On arrival firefighters reported a fully-involved fire in a shed about 15 X 30 feet. The shed contained machinery, and firefighters originally thought there may have been hazardous materials just south of the shed. There is no word on confirmation of the presence of hazardous materials, and no word on any extra hazardous materials response from the fire department.
The shed was located in a commercial side yard, just west of the Canadian Pacific railroad tracks that cross Hintz Road.
Many people noticed the smoke because of an oil material that burning. Buffalo Grove firefighters on the street asked Northwest Central Dispatch telecommunication operators if Wheeling Fire Department had a fire.
