Accepting his party’s nomination for vice-president, Joe Biden said Americans should re-elect President Barack Obama, saying he knows there is more work to be done, but Obama has the courage to make the tough calls necessary to lead the nation.
Sen. John Kerry praised Obama for ending the war in Iraq, ordering the killing of Osama bin Laden and standing with Israel. In his speech, Kerry said ‘ask Osama bin Laden if he is better off now than he was four years ago.’
Actress Eva Longoria spoke at the Democratic convention. She said she’s supporting President Barack Obama, saying she doesn’t need a tax break now, like she did when she was a college student working at Wendy’s.
“The cars get the elevator and the workers get the shaft” with Mitt Romney Granholm said, as she energized the delegates with a sharp-tongued speech about Obama’s decision to bail out automakers General Motors and Chrysler and Romney’s opposition to the plan.
Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords lead the crowd at the Democratic Convention in the Pledge of Allegiance. Giffords was shot in the head last year and has undergone extensive therapy. Her presence elicited a roar of approval from delegates.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a breast cancer survivor, praised President Barack Obama for passing health care reform and said this election is ‘personal.’
