The body of a Glenview man, who had been missing since his kayak capsized on Lake Michigan Monday August 27, 2018, was found Saturday morning September 8, 2018 north of Highland Park where he and another male kayaker launched about 9:00 p.m. on August 27th — 12 days prior to the date he was found.
A passer-by on Saturday morning discovered the body of Sebastian Duncan, 20, along Openlands Lakeshore Preserve Lake Michigan Shoreline near Fort Sheridan, according to police
Highland Park police and firefighters removed the body from the water and the Lake County coroner’s office performed a forensic exam Sunday, September 9, 2018. The exam positively identified the body as Sebastian Duncan, officials said.
U.S. Coast Guard officials said Duncan went underwater when he and another kayaker hit rough waters after launching from Highland Park about 9:00 p.m. August 27. The other man was able to swim to shore and seek help in a neighborhood in Lake Forest near the lakeshore after both kayaks took on water and overturned.

The kayakers had launched from Park Avenue Beach in Highland Park. Witnesses at the boat launch said experienced boaters advised the two men against using small kayaks to head out into Lake Michigan open waters — especially without Life Jackets.
Officials said neither man was wearing a life jacket.
Regarding the Lake Michigan shoreline, more severe conditions of winds and waves are often not visible from shore.
