Wauconda Fire District firefighters responded about 9:51 a.m. Sunday August 19, 2018 to a fire at the exterior of a house in the block of 1200 Water Stone Circle. Firefighters on arrival found a fire on the exterior at the rear of the house. The fire was extinguished within about 15 minutes.
An alert girl spotted smoke coming from her neighbor’s Wauconda home while the neighbors weren’t home. She ran to tell her parents, who called 9-1-1 to report the fire.
An estimated $45,000 damage occurred, even though the fire did not extend into the interior of the house. Early notification, reporting the fire, likely prevented much greater loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and is initially believed to be accidental, according to Wauconda Fire District.
Firefighters from Lake Zurich, Nunda Township, Round Lake, Countryside, and McHenry assisted Wauconda Fire District firefighters. Grayslake and Fox River Grove firefighters stood by in Wauconda Fire District fire stations.
ComEd and Nicor responded to the scene to temporarily shut off utilities.
