Krásna Hôrka is a castle in Slovakia, towering over the village Krásnohorské Podhradie near Rožňava. Krásna Hôrka is a National Cultural Monument of the Slovak Republic with history back to at least 1333.
The castle has been owned by three Hungarian families: the Máriássy family, the Bebeks and the Andrássy family.
On March 10, 2012, the Krásna Hôrka castle burned down, allegedly caused initially by exposure to a grass fire. The roof of the castle was destroyed completely and all three bell towers were destroyed by fire with the metal bells melted. According to the information of the Slovak TV JOJ, the fire was possibly started by ethnic Gypsie Children children.
The Slovak National Museum has reported that 90% of the collections were undamaged. Firefighters and police believe that the grass caught fire after two boys were involved in the careless or inexperienced lighting of a cigarette. The grass ignited and a live ember is believed to have spread to the castle’s roof.

Most of Slovakia’s castles were destroyed by Nazi Germany in World War II, but Krásna Hôrka had been untouched.
That’s a pretty bad fire…
