Three Chicago police officers are being recognized as heroes after rushing into a burning home in the block of 6600 South Drexel Avenue to save two people in the vacated, boarded up home that caught fire Friday morning about 5:07 a.m.
Flames spread to a neighboring home that was not vacated, located very close to the initial burning home. Chicago police officers on patrol spotted second floor lights on. The officers kicked in the door, and helped an elderly man and his son evacuate the burning home safely.
The Chicago Police Officers credited with the rescue effort include …
Sgt. Thomas O’Shaughnessy,
Officer Allesha Dennis, and
Officer Kimberly McQuarter.
Chicago Fire Department investigators are looking into whether squatters were inside the vacated home that initially caught fire.
