Chicago police, firefighters and paramedics responded about 7:13 a.m. Thursday August 9, 2018 to a report that a bicyclist was struck by a truck at Madison Street and Halsted Avenue.
Later Thursday morning, police released information that a 39-year-old woman was fatally struck by a dump truck Thursday morning in Chicago’s West Loop. Initial investigation shows that the female bicyclist was northbound on Halsted Street when she was hit.
911 callers reported the victim was still under the truck. Squad 1’s crew on arrival report they would be working a “pin-in” by 7:15 a.m. Crews worked quickly to release the victim from being under the truck. The victim was en route to the hospital by 7:20 a.m. with a Code Red trauma classification. The bicyclist was transported to Level I Trauma Center Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and listed in critical condition. The person’s gender and age were not initially released.
Chicago Police District 12 investigators are investigating, and police taped off the scene.
