VIDEO: Woman rescued by Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics Saturday after she fell through the ice at Tom T. Hamilton Reservoir, Palatine.
Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:14 p.m. Saturday to a report of person that fell through the ice at John T. Hamilton Reservoir, 1037 North Smith Street. Emergency responders received a report that the victim was a female, and was hanging on to a sheet of ice in the water in the southwest corner of the reservoir near the pump house. Police and firefighter/paramedics rescued the woman from the water by about 4:22 p.m. Saturday.
Palatine police officer Dave Brandwein and police assistant Kevin Freese were first on the scene and approached the victim — spreading out their surface area and body weight by crawling toward the victim and hoping not to crack the edges of the ice. Brandwein and Freese were able to pull the victim from the water without falling through the ice.
Firefighter/paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital in apparently good condition. Afterwards police, firefighters and a family member were working to get the woman’s dog off of the ice.
