Broken windows after a quick stop on a warehouse fire in Elk Grove Village.
Elk Grove Village firefighter/paramedics and police responded about 12:10 p.m. Sunday to a report of a fire in a warehouse at 2250 Touhy Avenue. Firefighters received a report that the fire was in an office kitchen inside a warehouse. First firefighters arriving on the scene reported nothing showing from the outside of the building.
Firefighters stopped a heavy fire, but most of the time at the scene was spent ventilating the building from smoke.
The first firefighters inside the building reported heavy smoke observed with a search of the fire underway. Firefighters on interior attack reported a large area of fire under a mezzanine. Firefighters also received a report that only one employee was onsite, and the employee had evacuated the building.
The fire was reported under control about 12:33 p.m. Fire was reported extinguished about 12:36 p.m.
Firefighters from Des Plaines, Mount Prospect and Schaumburg assisted Elk Grove Village firefighters.
