Arlington Heights police responded to a report about 9:24 p.m. Friday that four youths had their hands up in what appeared to be a robbery behind the Shell gas station at Arlington Heights Road and Rand Road. It appeared that a fifth person was pointing something at the four with their hands up.
The offender was described as a male/black or male/Hispanic, wearing a red or black baseball cap and possibly a Northface or similar jacket. The caller said it appeared the four subjects were being robbed, but that no weapon was seen. Police were on the scene at the Shell station within one minute.
About 9:28 p.m. police received a call from at least one of the victims who walked over to a restaurant in the strip mall at the southeast corner of Arlington Heights Road and Rand Road.
The victim described offenders as two male/black subjects, about 16-18 years-old. The offenders left on bikes in an unknown direction. Police immediately checked north and south up and down Arlington Heights Road.
Police had several male/black subjects on bikes stopped at Arlington Heights Road and Valley Lane by 9:31 p.m.. After the stop, police reported they were out with three male/black subjects, one male/Hispanic subjects and one female/Hispanic.
Police transported four male/juveniles in custody and one female/juvenile in custody to Arlington Heights Police Department Headquarters.
The victims were three teens. Witness reported that police were concentrating a search near a white donation box behind the Shell gas station. Another witness reported about 10 police vehicles marked and unmarked at Arlington Heights Road and Valley Lane. The gun turned out to be a pellet gun.
