Cary police responded about 12:40 a.m. Monday July 30, 2018 to a report of theft of services via unpaid cab fare near Garden Place Circle Apartments near 1st Street and Pearl Street. During a police investigation of the report, they attempted to speak with a 20-year-old male at a residence on Garden Place Circle. The male suspect did not cooperate with police, and threatened to use a firearm to hurt the officers, according to Cary Police Department.
The suspect also exposed his genitals to Cary police officers and bystanders while he was outside the apartment complex. He continued to threaten police and a standoff developed.
Several nearby police departments were called to the scene for backup, and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) Emergency Services Team (EST) activated — a police tactical response for standoff and barricaded subjects.
The male was arrested a short time later and identified as Colton Howell, age 20. After he was taken into custody, he was transported by Cary firefighter/paramedics to an area hospital.
