Buffalo Grove Police Launch Anti-Texting and Driving Campaign “Texting and Driving – It Can Wait”

Buffalo Grove begins a statewide campaign against texting and driving on Saturday, September 3, 2011.

The “Texting and Driving – It Can Wait” program, sponsored by AT&T, will be launched by the Buffalo Grove Police Department and students from Buffalo Grove High School and Stevenson High School.

The “Texting and Driving – It Can Wait” program aims to raise awareness among teens, and cell phone users of all ages, about the dangers of texting and driving.

AT&T’s Txtng & Drivng Campaign Urges Consumers That ‘It Can Wait. The documentary features families affected by texting while behind the wheel is being distributed to educators, government officials, safety organizations and public as part of a educational awareness campaign.

Representatives from wireless provider AT&T, the Buffalo Grove Police Department, the Buffalo Grove High School REACH club and the Stevenson High School FACTS club will appear at the Buffalo Grove Days main stage at 7 p.m. Saturday to kick off the program. Participating students will take a pledge not to text while driving.

High schools with the most students who text pledges with their individual school code can win prizes for after school or safe passage programs. In addition, any school that shows the AT&T “The Last Text” documentary to its students will be entered into a drawing to win prizes for after-school or safe passage programs.

At the suggestion of the Buffalo Grove Police Department, District 214 schools and Stevenson are including the “The Last Text” video in their driver’s education classes. Private driving schools in the area are also using the video.

Buffalo Grove Days visitors can also participate in the police department’s driving simulator from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to learn the dangers of distracted driving.
