One Cook County Sheriff’s Office deputy and two workers from the Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program (SWAP) are recovering after suffering injuries from a tent collapse during a scheduled cleanup.
At the request of Palos Hills Public Works, seven SWAP workers, supervised by a CCSO deputy, were cleaning up after Family Fest, which took place this weekend at 110th & 88th Avenue, near Moraine Valley Community College . At approximately 8:30 a.m. Monday, when bad weather hit, the group ran for cover. One of the tents from the Family Fest event collapsed, and a pole struck the deputy on duty in the head, and injured two SWAP workers.
The deputy and one of the SWAP workers were taken to Christ Community Hospital, and the other SWAP worker was taken to Palos Heights Community Hospital. All three are currently being treated and were released late Monday.
SWAP diverts non-violent, misdemeanor offenders out of the Cook County jail system and puts them to work across the area under the supervision of trained personnel.
