Oscar Mayer Wienermobile at Speedway at Arlington Heights Road and Palatine Road.
On a mission to spread the message of getting a better hot dog in every hand, the friendly and outgoing Oscar Wienermobile crew met curious onlookers as they fueled up at Speedway at Arlington Heights Road and Palatine Road in Arlington Heights on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at about 12:45 p.m. The Wienermobile is one of six Oscar Mayer Wienermobile vehicles that are heading out this summer to tour the United States. This Wienermobile with professional drivers and company ambassadors Connor O’Neil and Josie Balderrama was heading out to Louisville, Kentucky after making a stop in Arlington Heights. They departed from the Madison, Wisconsin area — actually Verona, Wisconsin fresh from training.
Connor and Josie are actually known as Oscar Mayer Hotdoggers — specially trained in Verona, Wisconsin. Each year, Oscar Mayer hires 12 college students (two for each of the six Wienermobiles) just prior to their graduation. The students are selected from all over the United States, and are hired for a yearlong commitment that comes with 14 days of training, lots of travel, and lots of smiles.
Oscar Mayer Hotdoggers Josie and Connor served smiles and wiener whistles at the Speedway station Sunday afternoon. Their job assignments include functioning as goodwill ambassadors via radio and television appearances, newspaper interviews, grocer store visits and military visits, and charity functions. They also appear in parades.
The job is 100 percent travel, according to their job application introduction — including a “company car that is guaranteed to turn heads.”
