Two Injured, Trapped After Mazda 3 Hits Tree and Rolls Over on Park Dr, Mt. Prospect
VIDEO: Mazda 3 crashes into tree, and firefighter/paramedics rescue two accident victims who were trapped in the vehicle.
Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded just before 6:45 AM Sunday to a report of a car on its side with people trapped inside on Park Drive, just north of Tano Lane. Police arrived just before firefighter/paramedics and reported a person trapped inside the car. One person was on top of another and the police officer could not see the second person at first glance.
Firefighter/paramedics immediately stabilized a Mazda 3 that was on its side — driver’s side down. Firefighters cut off the roof of the car with a Hurst cutter tool and extricated each person and then transported the victims to awaiting rescue ambulances. At least one, and possibly both victims — an adult male and adult female — were transported to Glenbrook Hospital.
Before the crash, the Mazda 3 was headed southbound on Park Lane. The vehicle left the road on the west side of the street, hit two curbside mail boxes, hit and displaced a large boulder, and then hit a tree. The impact with the tree caused the car to bounce back in the street and land on its side.
The driver may have hit an ice patch before losing control. There were ice patches on the street and sidewalk near the scene that were very hard to see, even as a pedestrian.
A police evidence technician was on the scene. There was no word on intoxication or any other driving impairment. Both victims were conscious when firefighter/paramedics met them at the accident scene. The accident victims were parents of a young adult female owner of the vehicle who arrived on the scene after her parents were transported to the hospital. Mount Prospect police are investigating.
