VIDEO: Law Enforcement Polar Plunge for Special Olympics at Twin Lakes, Palatine
VIDEO: The Cardinal caught several plunges at the Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge at Twin Lakes in Palatine on Sunday. Groups included the Bartlett police, Schaumburg police, federal agents ‘Freeze’, Hersey High School students, Palatine High School students, Hoffman Estates youth athletics, and more.
The Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes by taking a flying leap – a leap into the frigid waters of an Illinois lake. In 2011, Polar Plunges occurred or are occurring from February 25 to March 19 at 18 locations. On Saturday, there was a Polar Plunge event at Twin Lakes (Salt Creek Park District) in Palatine. Palatine Fire Department divers were on hand in diving gear as a safety precaution.
Participants raise at least $75 in donations from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for jumping into the icy waters in the middle of winter. Each plunger receives a Polar Plunge sweatshirt and entrance into a Post-Plunge Party, plus the chance to win additional prizes for raising more money.
Geico is a major sponsor of the event.
