The Chicago Fire Department will say goodbye to one of its own on Monday. Rescue diver Juan Bucio will be laid to rest this afternoon. CBS 2’s Mike Puccinelli reports.
Funeral for Juan Bucio is Monday at 12 noon at St. Rita’s of Cascia Church, 6243 South Fairfield Avenue in the Wrightwood neighborhood Chicago
CBS Chicago and other local Chicago news stations are scheduled to provide live streaming video of the funeral.
Following the funeral, a full honors burial will be held at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Stickney.
Public Visitation for Juan Bucio was Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 3-9 p.m. at St. Rita High School, 7740 South Western Avenue. Over one thousand firefighters and fire administrators from the city and suburbs attended.
Juan Bucio, 46, died about the time was sun was setting on Memorial Day, May 28, 2018. Bucio was in the Chicago River on a rescue attempt and was about to get out of the water, when he suddenly went under water.
Bucio, a 15-year veteran of the Chicago Fire Department, died while looking for Alberto Lopez. Bucio is being remembered as a devoted father of two young boys, who loved being a firefighter and member of the Chicago Fire Department dive team for more than a decade. he was working out of the Chicago Fire Department rescue helicopter in a search operation when he died. Bucio had nine siblings, including a sister who is a police officer with the Chicago Police Department.
A public visitation was set for Sunday for fallen CFD diver Juan Bucio.
Rescue teams were preparing to resume the search for a missing boater Tuesday morning, after a Fire Department diver died while trying to find the missing man Monday evening. CBS 2’s Vi Nguyen and Mike Puccinelli report.
