Chicago firefighters responded about 9:00 p.m. Wednesday to a vacant Bucktown neighborhood building in the 1800 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. The building had the dangerous roof style — bowstring truss roof — that was involved in the fire that killed Chicago firefighters Edward J. Stringer, of Engine 63 and Corey D. Ankum, of Truck 34 in a roof/building collapse at 1744 East 75th Street in Chicago on December 22, 2010. The fire was elevated to a 2-11. No injuries were reported and the fire was struck out about 11:25 p.m. Wednesday. CFD’s HazMat unit 5-1-1 was called to the scene.
Schiller Park firefighters responded just before 4:00 a.m. Thursday to a fire at the Horseshoe Inn, 9639 Irving Park Road in Schiller Park. The fire was elevated to a three-alarm fire at the Schiller Park tavern.
The fire, at the Horseshoe Inn, 9639 Irving Park Road, broke out shortly before 4 a.m. and was elevated to a 2-alarm fire. About 5:15 a.m. the was elevated to a 3-alarm fire. Fire departments from Des Plaines, Elmwood Park, Franklin Park, Hillside, Leyden Township, Northlake, Stone Park and others assisted Schiller Park Fire Department.
Maywood firefighters responded about 4:30 a.m. Thursday to a basement fire in a 2-1/2 story apartment with a report of heavy fire in the basement. Firefighters from Elmhurst and River Forest and others assisted Maywood Fire Department.
The Maywood and Schiller Park fires were both located in MABAS Division 20 — the mutual aid box alarm system for several near west suburban communities.
