At least 31 people have been killed by a terrorist explosion at Moscow’s busiest Airport, Domodedovo. Around one hundred and thirty others have been hurt by the blast in the luggage collection area of the international arrivals hall.
At least 31 people were killed and more than 100 injured on Monday in a suicide bombing at Russia’s biggest airport, Russian news agencies reported. Police say one, or several suicide bombers could be to blame.
Smoke was seen emanating from a baggage claim area and people were seen running out of the emergency exits at the Moscow International Airport.
No reports of American casualties.
The Kremlin is has worked to contain an Islamist insurgency in the mainly Muslim North Caucasus, and rebels have repeatedly vowed to take take their battle to the mainstream Russia.
Moscow Domodedovo Airport is an international airport located in Domodedovsky District, Moscow Oblast, Russia, 42 kilometres (26 mi) south-southeast of the center of Moscow. Domodedovo is the largest airport in Russia in terms of passenger and cargo traffic (22.25 million passengers used the airport in 2010, which is a 19.2% increase over 2009), and is one of the three major Moscow airports, including Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo.
