A total of 5.75 inches of new snow fell from Saturday just before 6:30 p.m. through about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in Arlington Heights. Snow was wet at first and became dry snow late. The snow that fell was lake effect snow. Snow cover at 7:45 a.m. Sunday was 9.0 inches in Arlington Heights — showing some settling since the previous snow system. Accumulation on pavement was also 5.75 inches of snow. Radar shows very light, sparse bands off Lake Michigan from northeast to southwest 7:45 a.m. and no precipitation observed.
A Lake Snow Advisory remains in effect until noon Sunday with 3″ to 6″ accumulation possible. An additional 2″ to 4″ is forecast for this morning with the heavier snowfall expected across northern Cook County.
