Ogilvie Transportation Center, Metra Trains Shut Down to Investigate Suspicious Package

Chicago police, Chicago firefighters, Metra police and the CPD bomb squad responded about 10:25 a.m. to a report of a suspicious package at the Ogilvie Transportation Center, 500 West Madison Street in Chicago.

The incident was elevated to a Level 1 Hazmat by 10:34 a.m. and a Level 2 Hazmat by 11:00 a.m. No Metra trains were arriving or departing at Ogilvie Transportation Center Wednesday morning due to police investigation of a suspicious package — possibly a locked briefcase.

At about 10:30 a.m., commuters leaving the Ogilvie Transportation Center and train station reported the building was being evacuated, while an employee on the fifth floor reported receiving instructions to stay in place.

Westbound Madison Street at North Canal Street is closed due to the incident.

Wind for Hazmat awareness was reported to be NNW 3 MPH at about 10:35 a.m.

Firefighters reported an injured firefighter at about 11:12 a.m.

News of a non-explosive device at 500 West Madison Street was reported about 11:59 a.m.

Chicago Fire Department also responded about 11:00 a.m. to a gas leak at 1950 West Polk. The incident was elevated to a Hazmat Level 2, and the leak was stopped about 11:26 a.m.
