Luis Benito, 17, faces a charge of reckless homicide as an adult after he crashed an SUV into a Bolingbrook apartment early Saturday morning, killing Josefina Prospero, 48, while she slept inside. Josefina Prospero was confirmed dead shortly after the accident. Her boyfriend, Juan Nicholas received minor injuries.
Police suspect alcohol is a factor in the one-vehicle crash that occurred when Luis Benito drove his 2002 Chevy SUV into the Riverstone Apartments building in the 300 block of Woodcreek Drive about 2:20 a.m. Saturday. Luis Benito’s blood alcohol level was not available Sunday.
Benito is being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility in Joliet after he and another 17-year-old were apprehended as they fled the crash scene. The passenger was released.
Josefina Prospero worked as a housekeeper at the Comfort Inn in Romeoville for five years after moving to the U.S. from Mexico. She was engaged to Juan Nicholas.
